My Portfolios – User guide

The portfolio system is transaction based. You register purchases and sales of stocks, in addition to dividend payments, splits and reverse splits. You can also register cash transactions like deposits, withdrawals and other gains or costs.
If a stock is bought or sold several times, the system will calculate return based on the Average Cost Method. When you have sold all your stocks in a company, the calculation will start over when new stocks are bought in the same company. When all the stocks in a company have been sold, the transactions still remain in the system. It is easy to go back and check the results of previous investments.

The name of the portfolio being viewed is shown in the top left-hand corner.

You can re-name portfolios, delete portfolios and create new portfolios.

Create new portfolios

You create new portfolios by clicking «Create portfolio». Give the portfolio a name and set the portfolio standard currency. Cash holdings and total values will be shown in the currency selected here.

Add transactions

Click «Add transaction» in order to add a transaction to the portfolio. A window opens where you can select the type of transaction to add, i.e. buy, sell, dividend, etc.

Register purchase or sale

Search for the stock and enter information about the trade. Entering a comment about the transaction is optional.

Register splits and reverse splits

When there is a split or reverse split in a stock, the number of stocks in the company changes. Select Split/Reverse Split and the relevant stock. You can only select stocks where you have registered at least one transaction. When you pick the date, the system fetches the number of shares you had in the portfolio on that date. All you need to register is how many stocks you own after the Split/Reverse split. The system automatically adjusts the entry price based on the change.

Register dividend

When a company pays dividend, you can register this by selecting transaction type «Dividend». Select which stock and the relevant date. Enter the total amount paid. I.e. if you own 100 stocks that each gives a 0.5 euro dividend, enter the total amount of 50.00 euro. If dividend is paid in another currency than your portfolio currency, select the relevant currency and the exchange rate to be used. The system does not take into account any withholding tax on dividend payments from foreign stocks.

Register deposits/withdrawals

Amounts greater than 0 are registered as deposits. Amounts below 0 are registered as withdrawals.

Finally it shows the total value of the portfolio. If the portfolio contains stocks with different currencies, the total value is shown in the portfolio standard currency.

This page provides more detailed information about the portfolio stocks. In addition to the information from the Overview page, this page shows buying price, change in euros, risk assessments and indicators that give a technical assessment of the stock.

Foreign stocks

The buying price includes commission and is shown in the stock’s currency. Value and change in amount is calculated in the portfolio currency. Buying a foreign stock and seeing the price rise, can still mean losing money if the exchange rate falls.
